Position Description
The Chemistry department is currently looking to hire part-time faculty that can provide instruction in a wide range of chemistry-related fields. We serve students who intend to major in such diverse fields as biochemistry/biotechnology, engineering, medicine & health sciences, biology, and physics. We also offer specialized courses for working professionals and courses designed specifically for non-science majors.
Job Duties
1. Teach in-person lectures and laboratory sections of lower-division, university-parallel chemistry courses, which may include general chemistry, organic chemistry, and instrumental analysis.
2. Teach in-person lecture and laboratory sections of preparatory courses offered by the Chemistry Department, including chemistry for allied-health careers.
3. Teach daytime in-person sections at both the main and satellite campuses as needed by the Chemistry Department (evening and/or Saturday sections are possible after the first semester of teaching).
4. Provide instruction in accordance with the Chemistry Department’s established course outlines and the College Catalog.
5. Perform duties associated with instructing students and assessing their progress in relation to identified student learning outcomes.
6. Participate in college-wide functions such as assessment of student learning outcomes, professional development activities, and committee work.
7. Supports and engages in culturally responsive, inclusive, and anti-racist practices as they relate to student success, with an awareness of student equity gaps.
8. Participates in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism to center pedagogy.
9. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds (Required).
2. Earned Master’s Degree or higher in Chemistry from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT ;
OR
Earned Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry from an accredited institution AND earned Master’s Degree or higher in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Physics, Physics, Molecular Biology, or Geochemistry from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT ;
OR
Hold a fully-satisfied LIFE California Community College Instructor Credential in Chemistry (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990).

Desirable Qualifications
1. At least 1-2 years of college-level teaching experience in Chemistry.
2. Strong academic record, including coursework that provides in-depth coverage of inorganic, organic, physical, and analytical chemistry, and biochemistry; as well as lower division coursework in physics and mathematics.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of the areas of chemistry listed above at a level sufficient to teach the entire range of courses offered by the CCSF Chemistry Department.
4. Experience in bringing to completion the development of chemistry courses or programs at the postsecondary level.
5. Demonstrated ability to teach students with widely varying abilities and levels of preparation.
6. Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials that may be used in chemistry lectures or laboratories.
7. Experience working in a team environment to complete department projects, such as writing grant proposals.
8. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly in spoken and written English.
9. Notable experience with computer resources and applications that are relevant to chemical instruction, including web-based resources.
10. Demonstrated experience in development and review of curriculum and assessment of learning.
11. Evidence of instructional experience at the university or college level using culturally responsive pedagogy.
12. Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of inequities in higher education and a commitment to rectifying policies and processes that restrict access for historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted students.
