Basic Function
Representative Duties
2. Oversees and inspects quality of floor care processes and procedures; ensures all types of floor care is conducted based on schedule and site needs. E
3. Assists with specialized floor care responsibilities, as needed. E
4. Provides lead direction, training, guidance, and work review of custodial staff; provides feedback to manager or supervisor related to the evaluation of assigned custodial staff; organizes and assigns work, sets priorities and follows up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work. E
5. Assists in preparing work schedules in accordance with workloads, District and/or college needs, and available staff; provides guidance and work direction to Custodial staff, as needed. E
6. Collaborates and works with vendors and/or contractors with the coordination of supplies and services provided to the District; reviews and orders equipment, materials, and supply needs; recommends large purchases, new equipment, or supplies to supervisor for consideration. E
7. Provides training and instruction to assigned staff to ensure proper care and use of equipment and materials; ensures efficient performance of custodial duties. E
8. Assists with ordering and monitoring supplies within budget limits and established guidelines. E
9. Prepares, maintains, and reviews various records, reports, and files related to facilities and custodial operations including but not limited to service and supply requests; reviews student assistant, student worker, and short-term, temporary staff time sheets, as appropriate. E
10. Participates in custodial and maintenance duties as required; coordinates facilities set up and tear down for special events and meetings; ensures availability of furniture, equipment, and supplies; moves and arranges furniture and equipment. E
11. Maintains and issues custodial supplies; initiates and prepares service requests for needed service or repairs. E
12. Maintains security of assigned areas; ensures doors, windows, and gates are locked and secure; turns lights on and off, as needed; performs regular safety and security inspections during the course of work E
13. Performs minor, routine, and non-technical repairs to buildings, equipment, furniture, and other facilities. E
14. Learns and applies emerging technologies and advances as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized, and timely manner. E
15. Monitors and assists in cleaning, disinfecting, sanitizing, and sterilizing area facilities using appropriate safety methods and techniques. E
16. Creates and submits requisitions for needed custodial supplies, materials, and equipment. E
17. Assists custodial and maintenance staff, as needed. E
18. Performs a variety of clerical duties in support of the department’s day-to-day activities including but not limited to greets and directs visitors, answers calls, responds to, and directs callers, as appropriate; may make photocopies of documents and requests; ensures maintenance and repairs of equipment, as needed; contacts departments for additional service and/or maintenance needs; may perform simple repairs or maintenance of equipment related to the area of assignment. E
19. Attends and participates in meetings, trainings, workshops, and/or professional development opportunities, as appropriate.
20. May be required to travel to other sites to perform custodial services related to the area of assignment.

• Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and standards for the prevention, containment, and elimination of blood borne pathogens, viruses, and other potentially infectious materials including proper disposal of biohazard waste.

• Federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations and District policies and practices pertinent to the area of responsibility.

Education and Experience
• Five (5) years of increasingly responsible custodial, general maintenance, and/or specialized floor care experience; AND
• Sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.
• Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.
Foreign Degrees
Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an Evaluation Service prior to the closing date. Certification must be attached with copies of transcripts.
License Certificates/Credentials
• May be required to travel for various off-site meetings, trainings, conferences, and or events in support of the overall objective of the position.
Desired Qualifications
• Experience in specialized floor care cleaning, maintenance, and repair.
• Experience and/or familiarity in a community college instructional division.
Distinguishable Characteristics
The Custodial Lead is distinguished from the Custodian in that incumbents in the latter classification are responsible for routine work performed under close supervision.
The Custodial Lead is distinguished from the Custodian II – Floor Care Technician in that incumbents in the latter classification are responsible for the technical care, repair, and maintenance of the District and college floor care; assigns and reviews the work of the Custodial team, but does not inspect or evaluate work performed.
Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit or stand for extended periods of time; talk or hear, in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel, operate personal computers and other standard office equipment; and reach with hands and arms.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic shades and colors and the ability to adjust focus.
Employees are frequently required to walk and stand and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds; subject to frequent lifting (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), carrying, pushing and pulling.
Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of this class, incumbents are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data; use math and mathematical reasoning; analyze and solve problems; learn and apply new information and skills; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; and interact with District, students, vendors and others encountered in the course of work, some of whom are dissatisfied or abusive.
