This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Student Health Services on UC San Diego Campus and remote.
DESCRIPTIONThe mission of the Student Health & Well-Being cluster is to promote a culture of health and well-being for the student community, deliver equitable high quality innovative services, incorporate inclusive approaches, and celebrate diversity, with the goal of adoption and maintenance of healthy behaviors contributing to the academic success and personal development of all students.
The Student Health and Well-being (SHW) cluster of the UC San Diego Health System plays a leadership role in creating a strong and active wellness culture at UC San Diego that enables all students to flourish in body, mind and spirit. This includes promotion and the expansion/development of a student health and well-being center, and the transformation of existing departments under the oversight of the Executive Director into a cohesive, multi-disciplinary source of integrated wellness services. The SHW cluster includes the departments of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Health Promotion Services (HPS), Student Health Services (SHS) and SHW Administration.
Health Promotion Services is responsible for campus-wide education, outreach and prevention efforts on a variety of health topics. SHW uses a public health model in conceptualizing the delivery of programs and services. HPS provides services related to alcohol and other drugs (AOD), physical activity, nutrition counseling, smoking cessation, sleep, stress, sexual health and mental health topics among others. HPS utilizes peer educators, marketing and a variety of campus-wide campaigns to impact the students on a population basis. Additional programs are targeted to groups of students at higher risk on selected well-being topics. Individual services are available such as health coaching, biofeedback, body composition, nutrition and other well-being related services.
Reporting to the Student Health Behavioral Health Program (SH BHP) Manager, the Registered Dietitian represents Student Health Services (SHS) and the Student Health and Well-Being (SHW) Cluster, their mission and goals. In this role, the Registered Dietician plans, administers and evaluates nutrition services for the UCSD students. The Registered Dietician collaborates with the SH BHP Manager to support the clinical nutritional needs of individual students receiving care through SHW primarily through individual nutrition counseling and medical nutrition therapy. Utilizes evidence and theory-based strategies and methods to influence policies, procedures, interventions and systems to improve health of individual students, as well as the overall student body. Represents SHS and makes recommendations on nutrition-related health education services for the campus community. Acts as an information resource on other issues related to college health and wellness. Assesses the nutrition status of individual patients via medical record review, patient interviews and diet histories. Participates in treatment team meetings to address care plans for students with eating disorders. Serves as a resource and expert in the field of nutrition for campus. Prepares and conducts presentations for undergraduates, graduates and professional students. Performs other Student Health duties as required or requested.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSThe equivalent of a Bachelor's degree in Foods and Nutrition/Dietetics and have completed an American Dietetic Association internship; and be a Registered Dietitian.
Ability to assess nutritional histories.
Experience in working with patients with disordered eating and diagnosed eating disorders.
Proven experience in using electronic medical records and understanding of medical record management.
Demonstrated program planning and evaluation skills.
Ability to interpret trends, define problems, conceptualize solutions and convert into practical applications.
Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality. Ability to use discretion, maintain confidentiality and comply with all requirements in use of computer systems and access to any and all patient, student, employee and University data, in electronic and hard copy formats, in compliance with University, state and federal guidelines, including, but not limited to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on professionalism. Ability to relate effectively and sensitively to diverse, multi-cultural populations.

Complete and pass test/quiz for all required training assigned by UCOP, UCSD, SHS and SHW on a timely basis.

As appropriate, submit incident reports into the UCSD SHW Incident Report System, RL Datix or current system in use, to report near-misses, process problems or patient or employee injury events. Attend required trainings and refreshers for use and proper steps to follow.
Master's degree from accredited university in Public Health or related field, or Health Education experience in lieu of Master's.
Strong skills in public speaking.
Previous experience in creating nutrition education handouts, presentations and documents relevant to various nutrition topics.
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Must complete initial mandatory health requirements, and current clear TB test results and flu vaccination. In the absence of immunization records, titer test or blood test will be required to determine if other immunizations are needed.
Flu vaccination required annually. COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption required.
TB screening required, following COEM schedule.
Must complete initial credential verification, and re-credentialing every 3rd year thereafter.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs such as evenings and weekends.
Ability to telecommute for work, if/when needed and operationally feasible, as determined by department.
Completion of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) form will be required, because this position is listed as a mandated reporter under (CANRA).

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $80,883 - $106,759 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $38.74 - $51.13
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
