This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Hillcrest and remote.

DESCRIPTION

Established in 1978 at the UC San Diego Medical Center, the Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) combines the benefits of an internationally renowned university with a large academic hospital. The UC San Diego Medical Center and the DEM is leading an effort, funded by the Federal Office of the National Coordinator, to foster data exchange, interoperability, and clinical integration to improve healthcare efficiency and patient outcomes among San Diego County community healthcare providers.

Under direct supervision from the ED HIV/HepC/Syphilis Universal Screening Program (EDSP) Director, employee will be responsible for providing education on "bridge" services for newly HIV/HepC/Syphilis positive clients from the UCSD Emergency Departments into appropriate UCSD/Primary Care/Community Clinics. Works as a patient educator by providing knowledge and instruction to adults who have recently acquired HIV/HepC/Syphilis or related infections. The incumbent role includes initial and ongoing client education regarding available services, case conferences, available linkages and client services, while serving as the client's advocate. The employee will conduct periodic educational activities within the ED and during ED staff meetings to inform the patients and staff about ongoing screening programs, modifications, and updates.

Uses professional community educational program concepts to deliver standardized educational and volunteer educational programs. Applies established procedures and programs to address county program educational needs that are limited in scope. Follows standard practices in analyzing program content and delivery needs and determining effectiveness of current programs. Receives detailed instructions on all assignments. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Coursework or work experience in related area. Continuing education in related field required.

  • Knowledge or experience in program content and objectives. Knowledge of how to deliver educational programs in a variety of settings.

  • Organizational skills to develop a project plan, monitor plans against established deadlines, and review and analyze results.

  • Basic effective reading, verbal, written communications and presentation skills to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to maintain positive interactions with others and work cooperatively.

  • Experience using business software systems in the completion of work assignments; i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.

  • Knowledgeable of HIV treatments and research. Ability to provide ongoing self-education.

  • Ability to work with individuals from marginalized communities including minorities, IV drug users, and/or gay men. Demonstrated basic understanding of HIV transmission and prevention.

  • Bilingual(English and Spanish)

  • Ability to provide education to high risk men and women in the emergency department.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated knowledge of UCSD policies and procedures.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Must be willing to work with people infected with HIV, HepC, Syphilis and other sexually transmitted diseases.

  • Must be bilingual (fluent in Spanish and English).

  • Pre-employment physical and TB test required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $45,400 - $74,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $21.74 - $35.54

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
