Reporting to the Law School Director of Financial Aid, the Law School Assistant Director of Financial Aid
(ADFA) provides financial aid counseling to prospective, new and continuing law students for federal,
state, and institutional programs in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures and regulations.
The ADFA shares in the responsibilities of administering federal aid, including verification, loan
certification, professional judgements, satisfactory academic progress (SAP), Scholarships, Veterans
Education Benefits and other financial aid programs and functions.
In addition to demonstrating the ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students in which every individual feels respected and valued, the successful candidate will demonstrate strong customer service and student advocacy skill through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, strong problem-solving skills and desire to identify and support student success. All components of the position will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards. This position is located at Western State College of Law at Westcliff University
Working hours are M-Th 9:30 am – 6:30 pm. And Friday 8:30 am – 5:30 pm
Requirements:
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Counsel/advise new and/or continuing students regarding financial aid policies, procedures, and debt management.
- Disseminate information regarding the application process and aid programs
- Evaluate application and perform needs analysis using established procedures
- Package financial aid (Federal, State, and Institutional Funds) for new and/or continuing students
- Promote and maintain integrity, accuracy, and timeliness in the delivery of financial aid to students
- Represent the law school to prospective students at outreach events
- Conduct financial aid information sessions
- Demonstrate strong customer service and student advocacy through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, strong problem-solving skills and desire to identify and support student success.
- Utilize various resources to research and resolve issues.
- Maintains accurate records for student aid applicants and help in collecting data for required reporting.
- Monitor and enforce Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
- Serves as a VA School Certifying Official, including enrollment certification and benefits counseling. Responsible for submission of materials requested by the VA and maintaining compliance with VA regulations.
- Process forms for external agencies as needed.
- Organize resources and initiate actions within established guide lines to achieve departmental and law school objectives.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required
- Attends training workshops and conferences as needed
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
- An Associate Degree and at least 3-4 years of related work experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree and at least 2-3 years of related work experience.
- At least two years of relevant experience demonstrating leadership qualities and a customer-service focus.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently as well as on teams, and to manage multiple, competing projects and deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Knowledge of financial aid regulations, and processes.
- Knowledge of Veterans Educational benefits
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to set priorities, manage time effectively, handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously, and demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong familiarity with Department of Education systems (e.g., COD, FPS, NSLDS) and financial
- aid software such as PowerFAIDS.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends during peak periods.
